Honoring Heroic Care and Teamwork: SBELIH Recognizes Stroke Team Heroes at Awards BBQ
Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) hosted a special Stroke Awareness Month barbecue to honor the extraordinary teamwork that saved the life of one of their own—Brittney Berry, a Behavioral Health team member who suffered a stroke on the job. Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of her colleagues—led by Krystal David, RN—Brittney made a full recovery, highlighting SBELIH’s preparedness as it works toward Primary Stroke Center designation in 2025.

The Eastern Long Island Hospital Auxiliary (ELIH Auxiliary), a 100-member volunteer group that fundraises for Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH), raised a record-breaking $600,000 in 2024. The donation is part of the Auxiliary’s total contribution of more than $2,554,000 in gifts over the last 5 years.

Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) has named Deborah Gerace, MSN, RN, as Senior Director of Nursing Operations, Patient Care Services. She began her role on November 25, 2024, and reports to Suzie Marriott, MS, RN, PMH-BC, Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President of Patient Care.
