
Greenport, NY – June 17, 2025 — Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) announces the retirement of Dr. Lloyd Simon, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer, after more than four decades of distinguished service to the hospital and the East End community.
A respected leader and physician, Dr. Simon, has been a cornerstone of SBELIH’s medical staff, helping guide the hospital through years of growth, innovation, and transformation. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing the hospital’s clinical programs, particularly in behavioral health, emergency medicine, quality improvement and He has also played a key role in laying the groundwork for SBELIH’s efforts to become a designated Primary Stroke Center, a vital initiative to expand critical stroke care on the East End.
“Dr. Simon has dedicated his career to ensuring our patients receive safe, compassionate, and high-quality care,” said Paul Connor, Chief Administrative Officer at SBELIH. “His steady leadership and unwavering commitment have left a lasting impact on our hospital, staff, and the community we serve.”
Throughout his tenure, Dr. Simon played a critical role in aligning SBELIH with Stony Brook Medicine, enhancing access to academic medical center level care in a rural hospital setting. He championed key initiatives such as expanding behavioral health services, developing clinical protocols, and supporting physician recruitment and education.
Throughout his decades of service, Dr. Simon earned widespread recognition from his patients and peers. His consistent inclusion in the Castle Connolly Top Doctors rankings reflected his clinical expertise, thoughtful communication and longstanding commitment to individualized patient care.

Dr. Simon’s legacy will be honored at a private celebration with staff and colleagues later this month.
