Comprehensive Diagnostic Services

Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) provides the highest quality imaging and diagnostic accuracy on the North Fork.

Home to advanced diagnostic imaging services, with a new Siemens MAGNETOM Altea 1.5T with BioMatrix Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system, state-of-the-art bone mineral densitometry screening system, and the DRX-Excel which combines fluoroscope and general radiology exams. SBELIH is also home to 3D Tomosynthesis Mammography to provide earlier cancer detection, fewer false positives, and fewer follow-up tests. Our Mammography system is also equipped with a “soft touch” pad for more comfortable mammograms.

We have an accreditation from the American College of Radiology in MRI, CT, Ultrasound and Mammography, which is considered the gold standard in imaging.

We have been designated by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center.  This includes 24/7 emergency stroke evaluation and treatment, including rapid brain imaging utilizing CT scanning. We have specially trained team members, working in coordination with EMS. We utilize evidence-based treatment protocols and have rehabilitation planning and patient education for the patient and family.  We continuously monitor the outcomes to improve the quality of care for our patients. 
 

Laboratory Services:

The SBELIH laboratory is accredited by The Joint Commission in recognition of its overall excellence and adherence to safety standards. The on-site evaluation and accreditation process is designed to ensure the highest level of care for all laboratory patients. Surveyors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years and also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and records, and overall management.

Outpatient testing is available Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 9:30 am. Walk-ins are welcome until 3 pm.  Limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Please contact the Laboratory for availability.
