Human Resources Director and Vice President
Jennifer Carey, MS, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, has been appointed the new Human Resources Director and Vice President, effective December, 20th 2021, announced Stony Brook Eastern Long Island. Jennifer Carey is the strategic and innovative Human Resources leader for SBELIH, responsible for developing HR functions, cultivating positive work environment and collaborating with all levels of management.
“Carey will be a great addition to the SBELIH Leadership team,” said Paul Connor, Chief Operating Officer at SBELIH. “Her experience with labor relations, as well as her knowledge of professional development and training, will enhance our current employee communication and growth strategy.”
“I am incredibly honored to join Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital’s team,” said Carey. “I am grateful for the professional experience that I have had in my career thus far, and I am excited to apply it in this healthcare setting where we are truly in the business of caring for people.”
Carey is an accomplished Human Resources professional with over 15 years of experience in the public and private sectors; ten of which have been in a leadership role. Her career spans the manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and healthcare industries with managerial experience in both union and non-unionized settings.
Through her work experience, she has shown herself to be knowledgeable in the following areas: recruitment, employee relations, employment law, leadership development, mergers and acquisitions, HR compliance training, development and implementation of workplace policies and procedures.
Carey received a Bachelor’s in Management from Briarcliffe College and a Master of Science, with distinction, in Human Resource Management and Industrial Labor Relations from New York Institute of Technology’s School of Management. While there she received the “Anita Messinger Memorial Award,” awarded to the female graduate in Human Resources Management and Industrial Labor Relations who has shown outstanding ability in leadership, service and promise of professional achievement.
In an effort to give back to the HR community, she has volunteered her time and knowledge as an active member of the Long Island Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) since 2008, and is currently serving as the chapter’s President. She has also served on an HR Advisory Board for a leading not-for-profit agency on Long Island that proudly supports the needs of individuals with autism, learning and developmental disabilities.
Her passion for Human Resources and learning, led to Carey becoming an Adjunct Professor for Molloy College’s (located in Rockville Center, NY) Division of Business where she taught and guided undergraduate students on the topics of Human Resources and its function within organizations.
