Outstanding Members of Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital's Team Honored with the Laura Goodale Award

2024 Laura Goodale Award Winners Erin Corazzini and Jose Vargas wiht Suzie MarriottGREENPORT, NY, May 16, 2024 - Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) is proud to announce the recipients of the prestigious Laura Goodale Award for 2024: Mr. Jose Vargas, LCSW-R, CASAC 2, and Ms. Erin Corazzini, LPN. This esteemed award, established in 1986 by lifelong supporter Carl E. Vail, Sr. and the Southold-Greenport Rotary, recognizes individuals who exemplify the spirit of Laura Goodale, a former ELIH nurse renowned for her extraordinary service.

Mr. Vargas has been a vital member of the Behavioral Health Team, serving as a clinical supervisor at Quannacut Outpatient Services since 2015. Rising from personal challenges, Mr. Vargas humbly accepts this award, highlighting his deep passion for helping people and dedication to fostering an exceptional and collaborative work environment.

Ms. Corazzini comes from a line of SBELIH caregivers, as both her parents worked at the hospital. Her dedication to treating all patients like family has earned her admiration from colleagues and physicians alike. With a positive rapport with all and a strong advocacy for patients, Ms. Corazzini embodies the values of compassionate care and empathy.

Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital Chief Administrative Officer, Paul Connor, expressed his pride in these exemplary team members, stating, "It’s staff members like these, who exceed expectations, that make such a strong culture of caring at Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital." He commended their leadership, setting a standard for employees across the organization.

SBELIH Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services, Suzie Marriott, congratulated both honorees, emphasizing their outstanding commitment to patients, colleagues, and the community. "They both fly under the radar, help others in a kind and supportive way with humor and professionalism," said Marriott.

The Rotary Clubs of Southold and Greenport, now in their 76th year of service to the North Fork, expressed their joy in presenting the 36th Nurse Laura Goodale Memorial Award to Ms. Corizzini and Mr. Vargas. The award continues to honor the legacy of Laura Goodale, whose 39-year service at Eastern Long Island Hospital left an indelible mark on the community.
