Greenport and Southold Students Thank Heroes at SBELIH with Handwritten Personalized Letters

April 21, 2020

On Friday afternoon, David Gamberg, Superintendent of Greenport and Southold Union Free School Districts delivered several hundred letters to Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH). Each letter was addressed personally to each one member of the hospital’s staff, and they were all written by students of Greenport and Southold schools. Mr. Gamberg was accompanied by Mr. Ryan Case, Director of Educational Technology at Greenport UFSD to personally deliver the letters.

With schools closed due to COVID-19, this project was part of an initiative implemented by both school districts to encourage students to engage in “non-screen time” community service activities over their Spring Break week.

“During these trying times, it is so touching to receive such powerful words of encouragement from our local youth,” says Paul J. Connor III, Chief Administrative Officer, SBELIH. “Many thanks to Mr. Gamberg for spearheading this heart-warming initiative.”
