ELIH Foundation Gala at Home Raises Nearly $130,000

On Saturday, August 8, the Eastern Long Island Hospital (ELIH) Foundation hosted its Summer Soiree Gala at Home, which raised approximately $130,000 to benefit Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport.

“Despite the ongoing pandemic, we wanted to hold our biggest fundraising event of the year in an innovative, safe way” says Paul J. Connor III, Chief Administrative Officer at SBELIH. “We invited our donors to order gourmet take-away meals and give a virtual toast to the hospital from the comfort and safety of their own homes; thanks to the creativity and efforts of the ELIH Foundation and the Gala Committee, the event was more successful than we could have ever imagined.”

“Attendees” enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres and/or dinner from Lombardi’s Love Lane Market and sparkling wine from Sparkling Pointe from the comfort of their own homes. The event also featured a Virtual Silent Auction, where generous donors could bid on more than 50 items and experiences, including Sunset Sails by East End Charters and Layla Sailing, aerial photography sessions, designer handbags and jewelry, autographed sports and music memorabilia, trips to the Caribbean, and much more.

“The ELIH Foundation is fortunate to have such a strong base of community support,” says Paul Romanelli, Chairman of the ELIH Foundation. “We thank you for your continued generosity, especially during this unprecedented time when our hospital needs it more than ever.”

For the 2020 Gala, the Foundation had initially planned to transform the traditional event into two brand new events: A Summer Party at Claudio’s Waterfront and Wharf with a cocktail hour, raw bar, passed hors d’oeuvres, dinner stations, silent auction, and band; and a Summer Soiree at the private bayfront property of Mattituck Environmental Services with cocktails, sit-down plated dinner, dancing, and live auction. Plans for the 2021 Annual Summer Gala(s) will be underway this fall.
