SOUTHOLD, NY, September 13-14, 2019 – The Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation held its First Annual Fall Striper Showdown Fishing Tournament raising almost $45,000 to benefit Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH). Our generous business community came onboard as Event Sponsors: The Paradise Point Club, A Lure Restaurant, Dunne Marine Services, Grady-White Boats, Little Creek Oysters, A Lure Restaurant as well as Gold Sponsors: MLMIC Insurance Company, The Neil & Amy McGoldrick Charitable Foundation, Plumbers Local Union No. 200.
Fall Striper Showdown Fishing Tournament was the brainchild of Dave Basile and Kevin Barr of The Paradise Point Club. Dave Basile welcomed participants at a Captain’s Party on Friday night sharing, “Besides this event being a light-hearted rivalry between anglers, it is also meaningful since we have come together to raise funds for a worthwhile cause, the gift of health for all East Enders.” Little Creek Oysters hosted the kick-off where oysters and beverages were plentiful as twenty six boat captains prepared to set sail with their sights on keeper striped bass and bluefish for a weekend of friendly competition.
Festivities culminated at Saturday night’s Striper Bash as Greenport Harbor Brewery’s iconic fire truck offered beer on tap; captains, crew and their boosters enjoyed a seafood repast rounding out the seafaring theme, while live music wafted through the air. After a long night for some, and all day fishing for others, afternoon weigh-ins brought the moment of truth. Awards included two stunning trophies, six top prizes, along with all-important bragging rights.
Attendees enjoyed their weekend, looking forward to next year’s Showdown as they recognized this event was a sporting good time, for a good cause. Paul Connor, SBELIH Chief Administrative Officer thanked, “…all participants and supporters of this inaugural event reminding everyone that all money raised locally stays local to benefit our Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital.”
