Mattituck Lions Club Donates Respiratory Support Machine to Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital

Lions Club Donation

GREENPORT, NY, January 30, 2023 -- The Mattituck Lions Club has donated $10,000 for the purchase of a new Vapotherm High Velocity Therapy 2.0 device for Stony Brook Eastern Long Island (SBELIH). Michael F. O’Donnell, the Lions 1st Vice President and CFO of Peconic Bay Medical Center, presented the donation to Paul J. Connor, Chief Administrative Officer at SBELIH.

“SBELIH is thrilled with this donation,” said Connor. “The Mattituck Lions have an amazing track record of supporting projects here on the North Fork and this important contribution is no exception.”

The HVT 2.0, which is ready to use in about 5 minutes, requires little patient coaching or staff intervention, plus offers mask-free support to patients experiencing a respiratory issue allowing them to eat, drink, talk, and take oral medications while receiving oxygenation.

The revolutionary high velocity therapy delivered by the HVT 2.0 also has the potential to reduce hospital care costs by reducing ICU admissions. A large, randomized trial showed that patients with mask-free non-invasive ventilation (NIV) spent less time in the ICU than patients treated with nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NiPPV).
