National Blood Donor Month

Saving lives begins right here in our community. During National Blood Donor Month, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) recognizes the vital role local blood donors play in supporting patients across the East End and beyond. Through its ongoing partnership with the New York Blood Center, SBELIH hosts regular blood drives to ensure a safe and reliable blood supply for those who need it most.

Every day, blood donations are essential for trauma victims, surgical patients, individuals undergoing cancer treatment, and patients managing chronic illnesses. Since blood cannot be manufactured, hospitals rely entirely on the generosity of donors who are willing to give a small amount of their time to make a meaningful difference. One blood donation can help save up to three lives, making each visit to a blood drive a powerful act of community care.

Appointments are strongly preferred for all SBELIH blood drives. Scheduling ahead helps reduce wait times and allows staff to prepare for appropriate staffing levels and supplies. Walk-ins are always welcome, and every donor is sincerely appreciated.

Making an appointment is easy. Donors can call 1-800-933-2566 or visit www.nybc.org to reserve a donation time. To ensure a smooth and comfortable experience, donors are asked to bring a photo ID, eat a healthy meal before arriving, drink plenty of water, and arrive feeling well and symptom-free. Donors must be 17 years of age or older, or 16 with a signed parental consent form, and meet minimum weight requirements.

Thank You for Making a Difference

Your generosity helps Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital continue delivering compassionate care close to home. When you donate blood, you give hope and healing to our neighbors, friends, and families. We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming blood drive.
