Behavioral Health

Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital’s (SBELIH) Behavioral Health Services offer a continuum of care that meets patients wherever they are on their path to recovery.  Within our inpatient and outpatient services we provide fully integrated detoxification, rehabilitation, psychiatric, and medical services SBELIH delivers comprehensive, coordinated treatment that addresses the whole person, body, mind, and spirit.

At the heart of SBELIH’s inpatient behavioral health services is Quannacut, a Native American word meaning “rainbow,” symbolizing hope. For many individuals and families, entering Quannacut marks the beginning of a new life. SBELIH honors the courage it takes to seek help and embraces each patient with compassion, respect, and evidence-based care.

Our inpatient services provide a safe, healing, and therapeutic environment for individuals requiring detoxification, rehabilitation, or psychiatric care. Programs are staffed by physicians, nurses, alcohol and substance abuse counselors, social workers, creative arts therapists, and dietitians who collaborate to create highly individualized treatment plans. Patients have access to medication for substanceuse disorders, along with comprehensive discharge planning to support continuity of care. Our inpatient programs are accredited by The Joint Commission and licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health and the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports.

Beyond inpatient care, SBELIH extends its commitment to recovery through Quannacut Outpatient Behavioral Health Services, centrally located in Riverhead. Our outpatient programs address both immediate and long-term substance use and mental health challenges while recognizing the critical role of family members and support systems. Patients benefit from coordinated services in one convenient location, including telehealth appointments, medication for addiction treatment, psychiatric evaluations, co-occurring disorder care, and primary care medical services. Quannacut Outpatient Services also operates three recovery homes on the East End, further strengthening long-term support.

With the addition of the New York State Office of Mental Health license, Quannacut Outpatient Behavioral Health Services is now licensed to diagnose and treat individuals with primary mental health conditions, expanding access to comprehensive care close to home. Together, SBELIH’s inpatient and outpatient programs provide a seamless continuum of behavioral health services, empowering individuals and families to heal, recover, and thrive within their community.
