The sterile processing technician's main responsibility is to ensure that instruments used by all medical personnel in a hospital facility are clean and sterile. This entails performing manual cleaning and use of washer prior to sterilization, placing cleaned instruments in sterilizers such as autoclaves and sterrad. The technician examines equipment for defects and reports problems to manager or staff, tests autoclaves and washer and records the results, assembles instrument trays, distributes supplies and ensures that sterile processing unit is clean and ready for shifts.
Two (2) years' Central Sterile background experience required.
High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of Central Sterile Tech program or Certification. Basic Life Support ("BLS") certification.
Must be able stand and walk for prolonged periods. Ability to reach, push and pull items, and lift at least 25 pounds.
